Design Icon: Patricia Urquiola

Multi-award-winning designer and architect Patricia Urquiola founded her own studio in 2001 in Milan, after working and collaborating with the most important masters of Italian design. Renowned for her playful yet functional style, Patricia's works are now showcased in various museums worldwide.

Born in Oviedo, Spain, and based in Milan, the work of the renowned Spanish designer and architect Patricia Urquiola focuses on exceptional design and architectural projects as well as stunning exhibitions. After studying architecture in Madrid, she graduated from Politecnico di Milano in 1989 with the world-famous designer Achille Castiglioni as her mentor. Later, Patricia worked with Vico Magistretti and Maddalena De Padova until she opened her own studio in Milan in 2001.

Patricia Urquiola works and collaborates with some of the most important Italian brands, constantly experimenting with new techniques: from ceramic tiles, fabrics and glassware to a wide collection of chairs, tables, sofas and desks. Her architectural projects also include beautiful homes, retail projects and hotels, such as the Il Sereno Hotel on Lake Como.

Her widely known designs reflect her colorful yet functional and pragmatic style, seamlessly combining creativity with purpose. Having learned craftmanship in Italy, Patricia Urquiola focuses on manufacturing and research of high-quality materials, experimenting with the renovation of classic shapes and lines.
